Nexus 5 is a Google smartphone that was released in November 2013. Even though it has an affordable price, the handset has a great performance because it runs on a high-end spec with the latest technology at that time, like a Snapdragon 800 processor, a sharp 1080p touch screen, and a competent battery. But, there always some issues. Here, we are going to show you some possible solutions for Nexus 5 common issues.

Common Nexus 5 problems and their solutions

Nexus 5 Freezing Problem

Method 1:

Restart your smartphone by pressing and holding the power button until the Nexus menu appears, then tap Restart and OK.

Method 2:

Update the apps by tapping the Google Play Store menu icon > tap My apps & games > tap Update All.

Method 3:

Close the apps that you are not using by going to Settings > Apps > find and tap the app > click Force Stop.

Method 4:

Update the system by going to Settings > tap About Phone > tap System Updates >tap Check for Updates > if you find an update, tap Install and follow the steps.

Method 5:

Check the Storage space: tap on Settings > Storage. If you find the storage space is full, remove some apps and files from there. But, before you remove them, don’t forget to backup them to the computer.

Method 6:

Boot your Nexus 5 into safe mode by pressing and holding the Power button at the same time > when the new window appears, tap and hold Power Off > If the “Reboot to save mode” message appears, click OK > reboot your Nexus 5 to exit the safe mode. After the process done, if the device runs normal, uninstall the third-party apps one by one.

Method 7:

Reset your Nexus 5 to factory setting: Go to Settings > Backup & Rest > Factory Data Reset > tap on Reset phone > tap Erase everything. Once the erasing process is completed, tap on the option to reboot your phone.

Method 1:

Update all your apps: open the Play Store app > click the menu icon > tap “My apps & Games”>tap Update All.

Clear cache for a specific app and data.

  • Settings > Apps (Application Manager) > find and tap the application > click Clear Cache.
  • Settings > Apps > tap on the specific app, then click Clear data.

Clear cache for all apps: Settings > tap on Storage & USB > click Cached data > tap OK.

Update the software: Settings > About phone > System Updates > Check for update > if there is an update, tap Install.

Method 5:

Boot your device  into safe mode by pressing and holding the Power button > in a new window, tap and hold  “Power Off” > when the “Reboot to safe mode” appears, click OK. Reboot your device to exit the safe mode. If the device runs normally after reboot, uninstall the third apps one by one.

Method 1:

Restart your smartphone by pressing and holding the power button until the Nexus menu appears, then tap Restart and OK.

  • Update the apps: open the Nexus 5 menu > tap on “May apps & Games” > find the apps that need to be updated > tap “Update All”.
  • Clear cache the apps: Settings > tap “Apps” > find and tap the suspicious apps > tap “Clear Cache”.
  • Clear the app data” Settings > tap “Apps” > select the app > tap Storage > tap Clear Data.

Close the unused apps: Settings > tap “Apps” > find and tap the app that you want to close > tap Fore Stop.

Method 4:

Check the available storage: Settings >> Storage, if it’s full, you can delete the files you backed up, such as your photos and video.

Method 5:

Update software: Settings > find and tap “About phone” > System Updates > tap on “Check for an update” > If you see an update, tap Install.

Method 6:

Reset your device to factory settings, but make sure you back up your data before you perform these steps.

Nexus 5 Not Downloading Apps

Method 1:

Restart your Router.

Method 2:

Update Software by going to settings > about phone > Software Update > click Install. Or, Settings > About Phone > Update Google Play Store services > Clear Playstore app cache.

Method 3:

Re-configure the device.

Power off the phone > press and hold the home and volume down buttons > click Recovery mode > confirm the selection using volume keys and power button > select Factory reset > go back and reboot your Nexus 5.

Bluetooth Issues On Nexus 5

Method 1:

Turn off and on the Bluetooth: Settings > find Bluetooth and turn it off > wait for a few seconds and turn it on.

Method 2:

Turn on the Airplane mode > wait for a few seconds, and turn it off.

Method 3:

Turn on the Wi-Fi mode > wait for a few seconds, and turn it off.

Method 4:

Restart your smartphone by pressing and holding the power button until the Nexus menu appears, then tap Restart and OK.

Method 5:

Unpair the Bluetooth device by going to Settings > tap Bluetooth > tap Bluetooth device > tap on the gear icon > tap Unpair > pair your Nexus 5 with a Bluetooth device.

Contact the manufacturer of the Bluetooth device and ask them whether there is a software update is available.

Nexus 5 Wi-Fi connection problem

Method 1:

Turn on the Airplane Mode, wait for a few seconds and turn it off again.

Forget the network by going to Wireless and Networks > Wi-Fi > select your network name > tap on Forget > wait for a few minutes > reconnect the network.

Update your Wi-Fi router’s firmware.

Method 4:

If you use a dual band router, try to set your phone to use only the 2.4 GHZ band. Go to Settings on your phone, then Wireless and Network > Wi-Fi > then click on the Menu button > Advanced or Wi-Fi frequency band > and then tap on 2.4 GHz only.

Disable “Avoid poor connection”: Settings > Wireless and Network > Wi-Fi > click on the Menu button > Advanced Wi-Fi > then uncheck the “Avoid poor connection” option.

Method 6:

Change the router security from WEP to WPA.

Overheating Problem on Nexus 5

Method 1:

When you are playing heavy games,

  • Remove your Nexus 5 case, so the heat can be released.
  • Don’t play the games while the phone is charging.
  • Play the games in cool place, like under the AC or fan.

Method 2:

Avoid to charge and discharge the battery too often because it can cause the overheating issue. By reducing the battery usage can also fix the problem.

  • Try to change your location or position until you find a strong cell reception.
